Mini Forum 2023: The Echoes of Start-up

September 3, 2023

The 2023 Mini Forum was held under the theme of “The Echoes of start-up”. CamEd International Business Club (CIBC) meticulously planned and oversaw the event, which was presided over by Mr. Chan Mengheng as the project chair. The Mini Forum this year was held on 3th September 2023 from 1:30 PM to 4:30 PM, which took place in the Luca Pacioli room located in CamEd Business school. Our event could not happened without our two honorable speakers including:

  1. Mr. Kiet Sovannprina: Founder of CamboKicks and Co-Founder of UN:CM/KDMV DIGITAL

  1. Ms. Reasmey Daneth: Co-Founder & CEO of Tenbox

  1. Objectives

Mini Forum 2023 aims to:

  • Educate the public about the basics of a Start-Up company and the strategy to set the brand identity for sustainable growth

  • Inform the public about the possible risks of starting a business and methods to identify and minimize those risks.

  1. Activities

With the presence of our outstanding speakers, audiences, and club members, we began our event at 1:30 p.m. followed by activities stated below:

  1. National Anthem: After the MC informed about the event’s agenda, it was time to salute the Cambodian National Anthem. Everyone was standing to pay respect as the anthem was being played.

  2. Opening Remark: Mrs. Ny Morokot, the founder of CamEd International Business Club, started the event with her wonderful speech. She shared her experience as a university student who did not know much about starting a business but after she got the opportunity to join a competition, her perspective of business changed. She became interested in business and wanted to know more about local and international businesses’ operations in Cambodia. This enthusiasm led to the founding of CIBC. At last, she shared the PST advice (Purpose, Story, Team) for us to consider before starting a business or any project.

  3. Speech by Mr. Kiet Sovannprina: He, the Founder of CamboKicks and Co-Founder of UN:CM/KDMV DIGITAL, presented on the topic of “Navigating the Start-Up Journey” with the slogan “Work it like you dream it”. He started his speech by sharing his stories

as an entrepreneur who started a lot of businesses. Some of his businesses failed and some are growing. After all of those experiences, he learned one common thing in doing business is to start with a clear and spectacular vision without doubting your capability. It is crucial for one’s business journey to not get off track and keep finding ways to go forward. He also mentioned that poor-quality products and a bad marketing strategy will cause the business to fail eventually. As he is in the marketing industry, he kindly shared about the benefits of posting video content of your product or service on TikTok as opposed to Facebook and Instagram. Lastly, he encouraged audiences not to be afraid to start their dream business; even though they do not have a perfect plan for it, because they will figure problems out as they will be learning along the way.

  1. Speech by Ms. Reasmey Daneth: She was presenting on the topic of “Riding the Risk & Reward Wave” with the slogan “Consume mistakes like a mooncake”. She, the

Co-Founder & CEO of Tenbox, kicked off the speech by reminiscing about her first fried chicken business with her current Co-Founder of Tenbox. This small business led her and her friend to identify a digital wholesale market opportunity in Cambodia and that sparked the light of her Tech Start-Up, Tenbox. She said as she started the business, she recognized that risks come from many directions and are distinctive as the business grows from one phase to another. She emphasized 3 common risks that most businesses face such as capital, team, and competitors. She advised one must manage resources for sustainable growth with team members who have the same goals and enthusiasm in order to stand strong among competitors in the market. Last but not least, she clarified that different types of business have different types of risks so the only way to minimize the risks is to identify them as fast as possible and propose solutions to avoid or mitigate their effects.

  1. Refreshment break: It is time for everyone to take a break and enjoy the free refreshments that are provided by our club for 20 minutes.

  2. Panel Discussion: This session was led by our distinguished moderate, Ms. Thang Vanvorleak. Many questions were asked by our curious audiences who wished to know more about the experiences of our speakers.

  3. Quizizz: We also conducted a Quizizz game to remind our audiences about the valuable lessons that they had learned from the event. The top 3 winners got gift packages from CIBC, especially the first winner also got a shirt from UN:CM/KDMV DIGITAL as well.

  4. Closing Remark: The event was successfully finished by a gratitude speech from our project chair, Mr. Chan Mengheng, in which he shared about his experience in preparing the event and his appreciation to all other club members that participated to enable this event.

3. Conclusion:

The Mini Forum 2023 was the CIBC Tenth Generation's first significant achievement. The event provided attendees with a chance to navigate basic steps of Start-Up, explore the possible business risks, as well as improve audience self-awareness by our speakers’ personal experiences in the business. Finally, we would like to express our gratitude and appreciation to both of our speakers who generously gave us their

valuable time delivering an inspiring speech for all participants. Additionally, we would like to applaud Co-Presidents, Vice-Presidents, Advisers, Project chair, Team Leaders and members from all departments that harmoniously work together to successfully hold this event. We were able to learn a great deal and get a lot of new experiences thanks to this excellent event. This occasion also gave our team members a chance to get to know one another better and collaborate effectively. Last but not least, we hope that audiences were able to learn more new insights as much as we did and implement it to their dream businesses.
