The meeting was conducted virtually through the Zoom Webinar from 1:00 PM onward for about 3 and a half hours.

I. Purpose of the meeting

The objective behind this gathering was to obtain knowledge and business tips which will be presented by our honorable guest speakers on various topics such as “Career Choices for Business Students”, “START-UP Barriers” and “Innovation is the intention to Grow”, through presentation and panel discussion for CamEd students who are facing similar challenges.

II. Overview

Career Journey and Enterprise world is the second online sharing session that is hosted by CIBC and Ms. Sokha SreyPich who is the project chair of this gathering. With curiosity about career advancement and how successful entrepreneurs overcome the difficulties that they faced, our club has invited the guest speaker to talk about their experiences. Mr. Sum Sovanpanha who is the Co-founder and general manager of Cafe Inn, and is also the director of sales and marketing in pointer property began his speech with a topic about “Career Choices for Business Students”, as he is the first guest speaker of the sharing sessions. He had divided three main points to share during the presentation about the Career Choices for Business Students. First, he went through his career journey from teaching as professor at IFL for many years and had a thought to change path of career to become the owner of Cafe Inn and working as marketing and sales director. Second, he mentioned important skills that we should have, there are six skills that he had mentioned such as Communication skills (how to communicate with people), people skills (how to work with different types of people in workplaces), and sales marketing skills (how to promote a brand product to customers), accounting and financial skills (how to manage budget) and HR-leadership skills (how to manage people and staffs). Last but not least, the third point he delivered was the presentation of the career choice which is suitable with students’ majors. He had provided steps that university students should take, first, starting with selling the product and improving more and more to become a person selling real estate or selling luxury things as we are a business’s students. Furthermore, he also mentioned marketing skills, how to design products to look more attractive, selling methods to attract the customer by giving discounts and promotions,  and accounting & finance skills to manage the budget efficiently and effectively. Before ending his speech, he gave recommendations that students should learn more languages and are willing to improve by trying new things.

Next is our second speaker Mr. Sath Sodane, who talks about “START-UP Barriers”. He was a student of Brown University majoring in Social Entrepreneurship and economic development. He, now, is the owner of Aero coffee bar. He begins with presenting his philosophy of opening his cafe shop is to provide every cup he serves to the customers with a true passion that aims to deliver a great coffee experience which could make his customer feel better. More than that, the philosophy of his shops also included putting their craft of creativity to create emotion at a scale that helps in humanizing brands and connecting people, at the same time also giving people more than just a reason for their next purchases. Following that, he presented the 5 stages of the startup of a business which included seed, early stage, growth, expansion and IPO. Stage one, seed, is the stage where you have a lot of ideas and are trying hard to find investment.. Second stage is the early stage where you have already introduced your product or service to the market, but still haven’t generated a lot of profit. The third and fourth stage is growth and expansion, it’s the stage where your business is successful and looking forward to expansion of the business. The last stage is an IPO where you made your business a public company. Besides these stages, he also mentioned that social enterprises are very important too. He implied that doing business should not only be for making profit, but also helping the society at the same time. After that, he brought up the point of “The hit rock bottom of a startup” in the business. First is the doubt which is the greatest weapon for a startup is their people. It means that if you have the right person to work with, you will one day become successful. Second is the lack of necessary assets. It can be people, skill, or financial for a specific startup situation. Next is the fear of uncertainty, which is you are not born knowing, but you are born to learn and should always have a mindset to learn new skills in order to improve yourself to fit in the society. Lastly is the uncontrollable external factors such Covid19, war, tsunami, etc. When this happened, he said that we should learn how to deal with things instead of staying in one place. At last, he raises the idea of teaching your brain to be autonomously perceptive and to understand your surroundings. He hinted that we should use this as a key to find out the problems of the society and use this opportunity to create the solution for it. In closing his presentation he quoted, “Success is not just when you make a lot of money in your business, but you need to help society and the world to be successful.”

Last but not least, our third speaker H.E.Dr. Tan Monivann who is board of director of Mong Rithy Group and has 20 years of experience in agriculture, law, construction business including dealing with the government. He was covering the topic of “Innovation is the intention to grow’’. Innovation is really essential for all businesses. All institutions over the world must cooperate to match with innovation. According to H.E.Dr. Tan Monivann, he said that Innovation is the implementation of ideas that are creative and useful .There are many kinds of innovation but he said that the first thing we should do is to process activities that an individual engages in addition to expanding the brand or to approach current products with procedure and ideas in new directions. For instance, first is 1G which is  Motorola was the biggest smartphone industry at that time but then 2G appeared and Nokia took down Motorola from the top tier. After that 3G came out and Nokia did not care about the innovation or do research and development then Apple easily eliminated Nokia. Consequently, this is a really good example to show how important it is for the business to be innovative and be flexible to the environment that we are living in. In close proximity, during his overseas visits he found that the National Economic Survey found that global expenditures accounted for only a quarter of innovation, but earned a satisfactory 27% of the total revenue in international affairs. Overall, to grow the nation as well as grow a company but rather to achieve global competition and be able to move forward constantly they are connected with digitalization and innovation. Lastly, our honorable speakers were giving their answers during the panel discussion for the audiences which was relating to the topics.

III. Conclusion

As we moved closer to the end of our planned schedule, Ms. Sokha SreyPich had given a significant concluding remark showing her appreciation toward the speakers and the participants of the event. In fine, we would like to show our gratitude and thankfulness to H.E.Dr Tan Monivann, Mr. Sum Sovannpanha and Mr. Sath Sodane for investing their precious time sharing what they have learned and encountered, in terms of deciding career options, starting a business and inventing new ideas for their businesses. In spite of going through a lot of competitive challenges, they are still able to overcome obstacles and are now handling their business skillfully and successfully.
