II. Overview

This was the first online sharing session held by CIBC and Ms.Chorn Chanpisey who is the project chair of this meeting. As the club was curious about how people handle their business during this pandemic, we had invited our guest speakers to share about the current situation that their businesses have faced. To begin the meeting, the opening remark was done by the CIBC co-president, Mr. Vann Savrith who started off by explaining the purpose of creating CIBC and why the meeting was conducted through the Google Meet. After the opening remark, our first guest speaker, Mr. Kang Sovannarot who is the co-founder of Cocane Cambodia began his speech by elaborating about the first point of the agenda which is “Is COVID-19 really interupting the business”. Simultanoeusly, Mr. Kang Sovannarot works as a special project manager at Grab which is known as the Singapore-based technology company offering ride-hailing transport services, food delivery, and payment solutions. As Mr. Kang Sovannarot had said during his speech, COVID-19 does affect the business. However, it depends on how exactly people deal with it. For instance, for some business owners might think this is a disaster for their businesses, but for some business owners might take this as opportunity to create their new businesses namely, online business owners and think otherwise. Actually, Mr. Kang Sovannarot planned to make improve his business sales as 2020 has just begun during the summer. Despite that, he did not expect the pandemic disease would hit the economy this fast. Then, he planned out how to deal with it. His sales dropped a lot when his sales could have increased since it was still in summer season. He started to collaborate with some of the delivery apps, such Nham24, E-get, Foodpanda, etc. However, his sales skyrocket than it usually is unexpectedly after associating actively with them. Secondly, he planned to save a huge amount of money to combat with the unpredictable pandemic disease as we are not certain how long this is going to last and he also had to cut some of the useless expenses and even negotiated the rent. Shortly after, the second guest speaker Mr. Bun Park who is a successful businessman at his young age as the CEO of CAMAZOON and is a Founder of Phzar.com. He was covering on the topic “Preparation for Business Problems” and started by suggesting everyone understand more about the business orientation. As the current critical situation of COVID-19, he also explained some of the solving structures in general business for the audiences by emphasizing about his own company. He mentioned the decrease in the company sale by speaking of the sale besides the food service as it will be tough for them and may not guarantee how long they will survive in that business. In this meantime, he reduced the salary for his employees by 30% and it will be increased to 50% for the next month if the situation is not going better. As the lockdown, he thought that the business owners should remove the unnecessary factors that may cause more money to operate. Due to that, he stated this pandemic as the “Worst Scenario” in history and we should be more self-prepared during this quarantine time so that after the recovery we will be the better one among the other competitors. Mr. Bun Park recommended us to stand by, moving slowly, save funds and save our own power so that after the future recovering of this pandemic we will also recover faster toward our business. And lastly, both of the guest speakers were giving their answers during the panel discussion for the audiences which was relating to the topics.

III. Conclusion

As we approached the end of our agenda, Ms. Chorn Chanpisey had given a meaningful closing remark by showing her gratitude toward the speakers and all participants. Lastly, We would like to thanks our honorable guest speakers Mr. Kang Sovannarot and Mr. Bun Park for spending their valuable time sharing their experiences on what the specialized in, in term of the business. Despite the pandemic crisis that we all have encountered, they still handle their business professionally.
